Still Handsome As Ever!

Last night when I was at work I got a text message from Scott that said, "I almost just shaved my head." I quickly sent him a message right back reminding him how cute he is WITH hair! Obviously my opinion wasn't enough to stop him. I got home from work at 7am and ran into the bedroom, he was sound asleep WITH HAIR still on his head. So I thought I had talked him out of it. But nope! He gets home from skiing today and says, "I'm shaving my head." I decided to just go with it. So he pulled out the clipper/shaver thing and put it on a level 3 and shaved away. It looked like so much fun, I had to join in and I helped him out with the back side and the very top of his head! We were laughing because he was like, "Oh my gosh, what have I done?!" I just thought to myself, "No sympathy for you buddy, I tried to talk you out of it and did you listen? NO!" He hopped in the shower, shaved, and got dressed and ended up still being cute as a button! It turned out to not be as bad as I/we thought it would be! I guess all I have to say is I think I am just jealous that I don't have it that easy. How would it be girls?......

The Good Wife's Guide

Oh man, this is quite a kick in the pants you guys! This lady I work with pulled this article out of her file today and we just laughed and laughed! It's an article in the paper from May 13th, 1955 and it's titled "The Good Wife's Guide". I cannot believe how times have changed. It's so good I think I might have to share the whole thing: Let me just warn you though, if this is how to be a good wife then I am definitely failing.....how about you guys?!

-Have dinner ready. Plan ahead, even the night before, to have a delicious meal ready, on time for his return. This is a way of letting him know that you have been thinking about him and are concerned about his needs. Most men are hungry when they come home and the prospect of a good meal is part of the warm welcome needed. (This I sometimes do, but must improve!)

-Prepare yourself. Take 15 minutes to rest so you'll be refreshed when he arrives. Touch up your make-up, put a ribbon in your hair and be fresh-looking. He has just been with a lot of work-weary people.

- Be a little gay and a little more interesting for him. His boring day may need a lift and one of your duties is to provide it.

-Clear away the clutter. Make one trip through the main part of the house just before your husband arrives. (Whoops!)

-Gather up schoolbooks, toys, paper, etc., and then run a dustcloth over the tables.(Whoops again!)

-Over the cooler months of the year you should prepare and light a fire for him to unwind by. Your husband will feel he has reached a haven of rest, and order, and it will give you a lift too. After all, catering for his comfort will provide you with immense personal satisfaction.

-Prepare the children. Take a few minutes to wash the children's hands and faces (if they are small), comb their hair and, if necessary, change their clothes. They are little treasures and he would like to see them playing the part. Minimize all noise. At the time of his arrival, eliminate all noise of the washer, dryer or vacuum. Try to encourage the children to be quiet.

-Be happy to see him. (Now that I do agree with!)

-Greet him with a warm smile and show sincerity in your desire to please him. (That too)

-Listen to him. You may have a dozen important things to tell him, but the moment of his arrival is not the time. Let him talk first-remember, his topics of conversation are more important than yours.

-Make the evening his. Never complain if he comes home late or goes out to dinner, or other places of entertainment without you. Instead, try to understand his world of strain and pressure and his very real need to be at home and relax.

-You goal: Try to make sure your home is a place of peace, order and tranquility where your husband can renew himself in body and spirit. (Why not for all of us?)

-Don't greet him with complaints and problems.

-Con't complain if he's late home for dinner or even if he stays out all night. Count this as minor compared to what he might have gone through that day.

-Make him comfortable. Have him lean back in a comfortable chair or have him lie down in the bedroom. Have a cool or warm drink ready for him.

-Arrange his pillow and offer to take off his shoes. Speak in a low, soothing and pleasant voice. (Oh my gosh....seriously?)

-Don's ask him questions about his actions or question his judgment or integrity. Remember, he is the master of the house and as such will always exercise his will with fairness and truthfulness. You have no right to question him.

-A good wife always knows her place.

Anyone laughing....I sure got a kick out of this!

30 Minute Makeover!

Okay this is embarrassing! Let me explain....the beginning of every week is so busy. Scotty and I hardly see each other Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday's because our schedules are contradicting. One of us will be working nights, one of us days, and both in school, it's just crazy. So on Wednesday afternoon I woke up after my night shift and walked out of our bedroom to our living room! It was a disaster! I actually just broke out in laughter, I could NOT believe how messy it was! It was like everything in our house had been ripped out of the drawers and off the shelves and somehow got into the living room! Golf clubs were in the middle of the room (maybe Scott was practicing his swing last night while I was at work?), there are 5 pairs of skis just THROWN into the corner, the pictures are crooked, all of our clean laundry is still in the basket (4 days later) sitting on the couch, we have clothes just layin around, it was awful! So I got to cleaning thinking it was going to take all day, but no! Thank goodness our whole apartment is probably no bigger than all of your guys' bedrooms! 30 minutes later it was beautiful again! Everything changes when you are living in a clean environment, don't ya think? The spirit is back and you are just happy! We love our little apartment, but we're gonna work on not letting it get so out of hand by every Wednesday! Here are the before and afters!

Oh ya, no lie! But just wait...
Back to normal!!

Weekend Get-a-Way

I am so grateful to live in Utah, it is so beautiful. As antsy as I am for the warm weather, to wear t-shirts and flip flops again, and drive with my windows down, I have thoroughly enjoyed all the beautiful snow we've recieved this winter (especially for skiing!). Well this weekend Scotty and I were able to escape our crazy lives and the city and head up to Midway. It was nothing but a winter wonderland! What a joy it was to relax and sip hot chocolate together. Life is so good. We ate at this wonderful prime rib buffett at that new Zermott resort, it was delicious! We ate till our tummies were full and our pants were unbuttoned (everyone has to do that every once in a while right?) On Sunday we slept in and made a delicious breakfast and then went to church up there. I just love the "small town" feeling, the people are so down to earth. When we were driving home everybody was on top of their roofs shoveling off the snow. There is SO much up there! It was so great, families were all up there together, each with their own shovel. We just got a kick out of it, and felt guilty that we didn't have to spend our Sunday doing the same! I am so grateful for my wonderful husband who makes me so happy and enjoys life with me. We just cuddled up all day and talked and laughed and the time went way too fast. It was a wonderful weekend in our winter wonderland.

The Midwest?!

This week has been crazy! Our whole future changed right before our eyes, but we couldn't be more excited! Okay, so it's bittersweet but first let me explain what I'm even talking about. So....Scott was so fortunate to get accepted to dental school in a few places. After lots of prayin and lots of thinkin', we finally came upon a decision and that decision was to go to Arizona. We were SO excited because it is great weather year round (minus the scorching summers, but to me that's better than being freezing cold!), we have family there, friends there, it's not too far from home but still "away" at the same time, the school is so up to date and fantastic, etc. So we felt great about it and after two days of staring at the papers, Scott finally got up the guts to sign them and make a HUGE committment that he was going to have to grow up now! So we sent all the papers and the unrefundable $1,000 deposit check that basically says, "Okay we're doin' this!" So. . . . . the next morning Scott gets a call from the dean of Creighton University. Just a little history, Creighton was Scott's top school from the very beginning but chances were slim. . . . they only take 10 kids from the state of Utah. We didn't think he had gotten in there b/c we didn't hear anything, but life was still good, our other options were fabulous as well. So anyway, he gets the call and he offers Scotty a spot! He was so excited, but wait a minute! We just sent that thousand dollars to AZ! So it was a frantic day with quick talking and quick (but sincere) praying because we had to decide that day. We couldn't pass up Creighton and let me tell you why. Yeah I know, it's the midwest but Scott gets to do his first year here at the U Med School! So we get to stay here for one more year and will only be in Omaha for 3 instead of 4! Also, we are saving loads of money b/c I can get him 1/2 off tuition here because of my job at the U and that right there saves us a ton! And then if Scott comes back to Utah as a dentist, they will reimburse us lots and lots of money so we won't be quite so buried in student loans. Also, I can now graduate from the U with this extra year we will have! There were just too many good things about it! I have to admit, we are both sad we aren't moving to AZ (Scott for the golf and weather, me to hang out with my sister-in- law, nieces and cutest friend Jade) but we can still go down there and visit. It's still sinking into our heads, all these changes, but we are so excited! I have never even been to the midwest, but I looked up some facts and pictures about Nebraska that got me more excited. It's going to be a blast! Here are some interesting facts I found:

-Nebraska is the birthplace of the Reuben sandwich
-Nebraska has more miles of river than any other state
-The largest porch swing in the world is located in Hebron, Nebraska and it can sit 25 adults. (definitely will be going to see that one!)
-In 1927, Edwin E. Perkins of Hastings, Nebraska invented the powered soft drink Kool-Aid.
-And the picture I posted below is in Nebraska and now I'm in love with it because I love wide open farm land and (call me crazy) but to me, there are few things as beautiful than a red barn!

So anyway, it's going to be a ball. We are thrilled and feel so blessed! And by the way, we convinced AZ to cancel that $1,000 check!
